During the year, certain changes in your life will allow you to sign up for or change your benefits outside of the normal annual enrollment period. Those changes are called “qualifying life events” and include:
You have 30 days from the qualifying life event to complete enrollment on the benefits enrollment website, bswift. You’ll need to provide proof of the qualifying life event (marriage certificate, divorce decree, birth certificate, gain or loss of coverage letter, etc.) to make the change.
After the life event is approved in bswift, you will be contacted by iVerifyPro, the health system’s benefits confirmation partner, requesting documents to confirm eligibility for newly added dependents only. These may be the same or different documents than you provided during the life event enrollment. Please provide your documents in both steps to ensure your dependents are enrolled.
Change in FTE status from 0.5-0.59 FTE to 0.6 FTE or above, or from 0.6 FTE or above to 0.5-0.59 FTE, is not a qualifying life event but does change the cost of medical plan premiums. Read more here.
If your spouse experiences any of the changes below, email BenefitsConnection@kumc.edu. At that time, the $50 surcharge will be removed. The surcharge cannot be removed retroactively or a refund provided, so alert the benefits team as soon as possible if:
